EDL is a professional school of architecture, interior design and decoration, graphic design, communication and visual communication, fashion, styling, model making and sewing, industrial design and furniture. EDL's courses have enjoyed a national and international reputation for over 50 years. The Bachelor and Master degrees are integrated into the ECTS system of equivalence and transferable European credits.

EDL was taken over in 2005 by Dominique Benoît and Joël Colon, HES architects, who are registered as agents with CAMAC, the central office for building permit applications in the canton of Vaud. They practice their profession as architects in their architectural studio, Place de la Gare 4 in Lausanne, and thus allow EDL students to benefit from the different phases of their architectural and design mandates, from the preliminary project to the execution and from the follow-up of the construction site to the final realization.

The teaching is halfway between the principles of the Bauhaus and the spirit of Swiss Design. Artistic training through multidisciplinary workshops aims to bring together various artistic fields and practices. The teachers in architecture and interior design, industrial design and furniture, graphic design and visual communication, fashion design and model making are all working professionals. As a result, the EDL guarantees quality teaching by developing creativity, analytical skills, methodology, rigor and graphic representation. The qualities of each student at the end of the diploma/bachelor/master's program, highlighted in his or her portfolio, also known as a "book", enable him or her to enter professional life and meet the requirements of the job market.
